May 10, 2019
The president of Troy's firefighters union is asking for a second set of turnout gear for crews following two massive fires that broke out in a single day.

Following two massive fires in the same day, the head of a New York firefighters union is asking lawmakers for better turnout gear.

"It needs to be addressed. We can’t wait for a grant," Eric Wisher, the president of the Troy Uniformed Firefighters Association, told Spectrum News.

Wisher is requesting a second set of turnout gear so that Troy firefighters aren't continually wearing contaminated equipment. Fire Chief Eric McMahon told Spectrum News that extra turnout gear isn't in the cards currently, but Troy's city council president says she will talk with Wisher about the request.

Along with the extra gear, Wisher also would like to see four more firefighters added to the department in order to help with increase of calls, according to Spectrum News.
