MA Fire Department Gets $1.1M Breathing Gear Upgrade

The new SCBA equipment for the Worcester Fire Department, which was unveiled Tuesday, now features thermal imagers and Bluetooth communications technology.

WORCESTER, MAThe Fire Department has completed a $1.1 million switch to upgraded self-contained breathing apparatus.

Officials from the city and Fire Department showed off the new equipment at a ceremony Tuesday. City and state funding, and contributions from the Leary Firefighters Foundation and Worcester Fire Department donation accounts, made the upgrade possible, officials said.

The two main features are thermal imagers attached to the gear and Bluetooth communications technology.
