Steven Clark was arrested Sunday and faces several misdemeanors stemming from the alleged attack against a Gastonia firefighter, including assault with a deadly weapon, interfering with a firefighter, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer, WCNC-TV reports. He was released on $5,000 bond, and his next court appearance is July 30.
According to court documents, Gastonia fire crews from Station 6 were called to a fire off Chester Street at around 9:15 p.m. While firefighters battled the blaze, Clark allegedly tried to run over one of them with his zero-turn riding lawn mower.
Firefighters ordered Clark to stop and get off his mower, but he refused. He then allegedly ran over a department hose, causing $200 in damage and hampering efforts by the crews to put out the fire, according to WCNC.
