A Virginia firefighter was wounded by gunfire during a call Monday that also injured another person.

The incident happened just after 9:10 p.m. as the Portsmouth Fire Department was responding to a report concerning downed power lines on a street, WAVY-TV reports. Shots were fired while crews were working at the scene, and bullets struck a firefighter and a civilian.

Both were taken to the hospital, and the firefighter—who is in his mid-30s—was in stable condition with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. Details concerning the condition of the other wounded individual were not released, but a woman claiming to be the injured man's sister told WTKR-TV that he is expected to recover.

According to fire department officials, the alleged shooter was taken into custody by police. Authorities told The Virginian-Pilot that a dispute between two neighbors escalated and sparked the shooting.
