March 11, 2025
Laramie firefighter Dylan Schilt was one of three firefighters injured in a chimney collapse last month and he remains in the hospital.

A Laramie firefighter who was paralyzed from the waist down after being injured in a chimney collapse will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility for further treatment.

Dylan Schilt is one of three firefighters from the Laramie Fire Department who were injured in the Feb. 28 incident.

"He couldn’t hardly talk, but he did get out 'Dylan' and 'hospital,'" Dylan's father, Mike Schilt told 9News.com about the night he learned of the injuries.

He sustained a broken back and became paralyzed from the waist down. He also suffered burn injuries and a collapsed lung.

Two other firefighters suffered leg injuries and will be out for a while during their recovery.

Mike Schilt said they have witnessed some wins while Dylan is treated at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies.

"He did get some toes to wiggle the other day, and you wouldn't think that was a big deal, but we were ecstatic."
