“Our goal is never letting those who die in the line of duty be forgotten," Fort Smith Battalion Chief Evan Mallard said.

Fort Smith firefighters are on a mission to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Their vision is to create a memorial plaza that will include a life-size bronze statue, surrounded by engraved pavers forming a Maltese cross.

“Our goal is never letting those who die in the line of duty be forgotten. They were before us. They got us to where we are now, and we need to cement their names and a legacy so that we can remember them," Battalion Chief Evan Mallard told KFSM.

The Fort Smith Firefighters Foundation, a non-profit organization, is spear-heading the project. All donations will go to building the site.
