"Firefighters mean so much to our community."
That's why Eliana Browne told KREM that she decided to plant and dedicate a Ginkgo tree in honor of Coeur d'Alene Battalion Chief John Morrison and Kootenai County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood, who were gunned down June 29 at a brush fire on Canfield Mountain.
The sixth grade student at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, who said the deaths left her 'devastated,' placed a rock near the tree with a Bible verse from Romans 8:18: “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
The tree is adjacent to Fallen Heroes Plaza.
“My hope is that they’ll (find) hope for the future ... that the future will be brighter."
Several firefighters heard about her project, and showed up to lend a hand.
“We’re grateful. We’re never going to forget these guys. It’s nice to know the community is still thinking of us, of them,” Firefighter Erik Loney said.
