A ceiling collapsed on Boston firefighters as they were operating in a triple-decker Wednesday morning.

One of the firefighters and a civilian were transported to a hospital for treatment, WCVB reported.

The 13 residents and two pets were able to escape on their own.

Among the challenges were the slate roof, overhead wires and the narrow streets.

The cause is under investigation. However, firefighters said it started in the back of the building.
