Wilson Borough, PA, Firefighter who Fell off Ladder Returns Home
A Wilson Borough firefighter, who suffered fractures in a fall off a ladder last week at an Easton structure fire, has no recollection of the incident.
Bobby Lewullis was released from the hospital Monday and is already thinking about returning to duty, Wilson Borough Fire Chief Joseph Sipel told WFMZ.
"Lewullis called a 'mayday,' stated he was running out of air. He had about 20% to 25% left of his air."
He knew he had to get out.
"He got to the third floor. Got disoriented. It was a very cut up building with a lot of doorways and hallways going to different spots."
He found a ladder outside a window.
While climbing down a ladder, Lewuillis fell. Although he had just taken a 20-foot plunge, he spoke with fellow EMS and firefighters who ran to help.
In addition to fractures, he also suffered smoke inhalation.
The chief said he appreciates the widespread support from fellow firefighters and the community.
He's hoping to recover smoothly and be back at the firehouse in four to six months.
While he's on the mission to get back on the rig, Lewuillis is also thinking about others facing a difficult journey.
"He wanted to make sure everybody remembers the people that live there that were injured and lost their homes..."
