Man Arrested, Charged with Murder in Building Fire that Claimed Chicago Firefighter
Police have arrested a man in connection Monday's tragic blaze that claimed the life of fourth-generation Chicago firefighter Michael Altman.
Twenty-seven-year-old Sheaves Slate will appear in court Saturday to face charges including murder and arson, CBS Chicago reported.
Altman responded to a fire in a four-story Rogers Park apartment building Monday and fell into the basement when the first floor collapsed. He died Tuesday from his injuries.
Slate, who had been arrested in the past for retail theft and had a history involving drugs, was arrested Wednesday.
Altman, whose grandfather Edward P. Altman served as fire commissioner from 1996-1999, leaves behind a wife and child. Altman was expecting another child.
Visitation will be held March 26, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave. and funeral services will be held March 27 at 10 a.m. at the same location.
