Two Albuquerque, NM, Firefighters Avoid Injuries after Floor Collapses
Two Albuquerque firefighters dodged injuries after falling through a floor that collapsed at a residential fire.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) received reports of a structure fire at a boarded-up, single-story house at 442 Alcazar St. NE, according to KOB4.
The fire was in the basement, and crews from Engine 13 were getting their hoseline in place on the main floor when two Engine 5 firefighters fell into the basement.
Engine 13 gave a Mayday call and crews rescued the two firefighters, who didn’t need to be taken to the hospital after being evaluated at the scene.
The fire was under control in about an hour, but the damage was severe, and the house was considered a total loss.
AFR found signs that squatters had been occupying the house, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
