JKKS industries, invented the Rice Applicator, a multi-purpose Electric Vehicle nozzle a four years ago. JKKS is made up of 4 volunteer firemen from Paramus with over 130 years of firefighting experience. As firefighters from North Jersey, we get an onslaught of vehicles passing through our town daily. Obviously, we are seeing the same increase in EV's as the rest of country. We researched how different departments attacked these EV fires. Some of the processes we saw including lifting the vehicle, submerging the vehicle or simply letting it burn out. All of these methods we felt were impractical and unsafe. Our device can be deployed by a single firefighter as can be seen on the video on our website. This allows that same firefighter to then grab a handline and start attacking the fire from above. Once placed under the vehicle it will get up to 600 gpm directly on to the battery case, without moving, helping to cool the thermal runaway of the lithium ion batteries. We also designed a smaller version for departments that are on municipal water that will flow up to 200 gpm.
While designed for Electric Vehicles the devices are being used in any number of different ways, some example: standard car fires, water curtain between homes or buildings, parking deck protection, basement fires, fuel tank protection, under carriage cleaning, etc.
The Rice Applicator is a multi-use EV nozzle that puts water directly on to the battery compartment without the need to lift the vehicle. It can be used for several other fire ground operations; water curtain, basement fires, undercarriage cleaning.
