Flames Claim Canada Fire Station, Vehicles

Jan. 8, 2016
The Havelock fire station was only three years old.

Firefighters in Havelock are dealing with the loss of their station and extensive damage to five vehicles.

A passerby called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the fire station, Petitcodiac Chief Gerald Jones told reporters.

One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started in one of the trucks, Jones said.

Firefighters from Petitcodiac, Salisbury, Elgin, Penobsquis and Riverview responded to assist the Havelock crew.

A worker from a nearby garage saw the fire, and responded with a backhoe to pull some apparatus out.
