On March 15, city voters approved the use of $3.5 million from the capital investment trust fund for the building of a new fire station.
The current fire station was built in 1912.
The new fire station will be constructed near 108 Whittlesey Ave.
On Friday, Josh Snyder, public works director, provided a list of seven architectural firms that have applied to design the new station.
The following is a list of those firms and the fire stations designed by each:
• Brandstetter Carrol, Inc., Cleveland, stations designed — Lexington, Ky., Bowling Green, Ky., Solon, North Olmsted, Bay Village, Willard, Stow and Bryan.
• Daniel Frederick Architects, LLC, Milan, stations designed — Milan Township and Berlin Township.
• Mull & Weithman Architects, Inc., Columbus, stations designed — North Ridgeville, Concord Township, Delaware, and Jackson Township.
• KZF Design, Cincinnati, stations designed — Violet Township, Pickerington, Bloom Township, Delhi Township and Deerfield Township.
• Richard L. Bowen & Associates, Cleveland, stations designed — Wooster, Cleveland No. 36, Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College).
• DLZ, Akron, stations designed — Mishawaka, Ind., Columbus, Portage, Ind., Niles and Martinsville.
• M&A Architects, Columbus, stations designed — Westerville, Norwich Township, Hilliard, Columbus and Zionsville, Ind.
Snyder said city officials will review all seven proposals and select two to three architectural firms to interview.
City officials originally stated the fire station could be built and operational by early 2017.
“That timeline might have been a little bit aggressive,” Snyder said Friday, adding construction may begin in spring 2017.
