July 26--Through the simple application of due diligence, the Sedona Fire District's chief discovered a land ownership oversight concerning one of his district's stations.
Fire Chief Kris Kazian was researching a bond measure that will appear on a November ballot and learned that one of the three parcels of land upon which the district's Station 4 sits was still deeded to Coconino County, according to the Sedona Red Rock News.
Paperwork dating to 1982 says the parcel was part of a sale by the county to the Sedona Fire District, but the deed for one of the three parcels was never written over to the SFD.
While the issue may seem minor, plans to bulldoze and rebuild the station could have run into some hurdles had the issue been discovered at that time.
"They realized that the parcel was supposed to have been deeded to us back in 1982," Kazian said to the county board, according to the Red Rock News. "Long story short, the county filed a quit claim deed and signed over the parcel to us. Now we're just waiting for it to be recorded. That parcel will soon be in the ownership of Sedona Fire District."
