OH Fire Station Closing on Trial Basis

Sept. 12, 2018
An Ottawa Hills fire station will close on a six-month trial basis to see if the community can be adequately served by crews in Toledo firehouses.

Sept. 12 -- Toledo City Council on Tuesday voted to approve an agreement with Ottawa Hills that will close the village’s fire station for six months.

The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department has staffed Ottawa Hills’ fire station — Station 15 — since the village disbanded its fire department and merged its firefighters with Toledo in 2011.

Toledo fire department officials believe they can serve Ottawa Hills from stations located in Toledo, so they proposed a six-month trial run to begin Oct. 1.

The change will allow three engines within the department to be staffed by four firefighters instead of three.

Should the new arrangement prove successful, Station 15 could close permanently.
