High Winds Tear off NY Fire Station Roof

The firehouse roof of the Hopewell Hose Fire Company No. 1 was blown off Monday, but that didn't keep the firefighters from responding to calls.

High winds might have huffed and puffed and blew off the roof of a New York fire station, but that wasn't enough to top crews from going out on calls.

No one was hurt when wind ripped off the firehouse roof of Hopewell Hose Fire Company No. 1 in Hopewell Junction on Monday, the department stated in a post on social media. Inspectors were planning to look at the copper roof Tuesday, and workers will most likely start fixing after that, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.

A station with a sagging roof, though, didn't hinder operations for the fire company.

"Though our roof may be falling off we’re still out running calls and ready for anything that may come our way," the department said.

High wind warnings had been issued for the area New York's Duchess and Ulster counties running from Sunday night though Monday night, with gusts reaching 60 mph, the Journal reports.
