Gunfire shattered the front glass window of one Birmingham’s fire stations late Wednesday night.

The shots erupted about 9:51 p.m. outside Birmingham Fire and Service Station 15 on Jefferson Avenue in west Birmingham. Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo said one firefighter was sitting about 20 feet away from the window when it was shattered.

“He is pretty shaken up,‘' Carrillo said. No one was injured.

Birmingham police are on the scene and Carrillo said the window will be boarded up tonight and repaired as soon as possible.

Though it’s early in the investigation, authorities don’t believe the gunfire was aimed at the fire station. “It appears it may have been a random shooting,‘' and the fire station was caught in crossfire, Carrillo said.

As of 10:45 p.m., police were blocking off Jefferson and Dennison Avenue to collect shell casings from the roadway.
