Kitchen Blaze Damages OH Fire Station

A Facebook post from the West Alexandria Fire Department shows photos of the aftermath inside the station kitchen and explains how a lucky break mitigated the damage.

An Ohio fire department caught a lucky break this week when its chief happened upon a station fire and was able to mitigate the damage to keep the facility fully operational.

The West Alexandria Fire Department in Preble County posted the story and some photos on its Facebook page Thursday after a fire broke out in the station kitchen, resulting in damage to the walls and ceiling as well as some cooking appliances.

However, the damage would have probably been a lot worse if Fire Chief John Glander hadn't been stopping by the facility to drop off some equipment. According to the post, Chief Glander found the station full of smoke, quickly hit the tones and then used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames in the kitchen.

Additional help quickly arrived, and the crew was able to safely reach their airpacks and gear in order to put out the remaining flames.

The good news is that the damage was limited to the kitchen and the department remains fully in service.

"Thankfully no damage to the trucks, we are fully operational and ready to serve our residents," the post reads. "Just don't ask us to cook you any meals right now."
