Bomb Squad Called over 'Suspicious Package' at CA Fire Station

Jan. 13, 2021
A bomb squad and hazardous materials team inspected a large envelope that was discovered by a San Diego firefighter outside of Station 32.

A bomb squad and a hazardous-materials team gave the all-clear after inspecting a package that seemed suspicious to a firefighter who found it at a station in Bay Terraces, a San Diego fire captain said.

The firefighter found the package in the parking lot of San Diego Fire-Rescue's Station 32 on Briarwood Road about 9:45 a.m. and thought "some of the writing on it and the shape of the package" was suspicious, Capt. John Liscum said.

The parking lot was closed off while the bomb squad and hazardous-materials team inspected the package. They took an X-ray of the package, then opened it and determined it did not pose a hazard, Liscum said.

Video from Onscene TV shows members of the bomb squad and hazardous-materials team looking at a large envelope on the ground, with several items — including a bandana, a piece of bubble wrap and a plastic bag — scattered around.
