Two people were injured when their vehicle struck the Tri-Towns EMS station in Westernport, causing extensive structural damage to the building.

Two people were injured when a pickup truck crashed into and heavily damaged a Maryland EMS station over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 6 a.m. Saturday at the Tri-Towns EMS station in Westernport, the department stated in an online update. That's when a pickup truck struck the building, injuring the vehicle's two occupants.

A Tri-Towns basic life support crew and an Allegany County Department of Emergency Services medic unit at the station were able to treat the injured people at the scene. But an ambulance from a neighboring rescue agency was called in to take the patients to the hospital because the crash had blocked access to Tr-Towns' own unit.

No details were released concerning the extent of the patients' injuries. No EMS workers were hurt in the incident.

The crash caused extensive structural damage to the station, and a collapse team was called in to evaluate the scene. A local construction company was then brought in to make sure the building was safe to occupy, as well as begin repairs to the station.

Despite the damage from the accident, Tri-Towns EMS is still operational. The department did receive help from the Potomac and Bloomington fire departments, as well as the LaVale Rescue Squad.

"Today, we are reminded that we are part of a brother/sisterhood that goes far beyond our small community," Tri-Towns EMS stated. "We truly can't thank each department enough for the excellent patient care and attention to securing our building."
