FFs in CA Station Wake to Stranger Cooking Breakfast

While South San Joaquin Fire Authority firefighters were sleeping, a homeless man broke into the station and was discovered microwaving a burrito in the kitchen.

Firefighters at a California station were surprised by a stranger making breakfast in their kitchen over the weekend.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. Saturday at a South San Joaquin Fire Authority station in Tracy while firefighters were sleeping, KTXL-TV reports. When one firefighter woke up to get a drink of water, he discovered an unknown man in the station's kitchen.

"(The firefighter) found a homeless man preparing a burrito in the microwave," Division Chief David Bramell told KTXL.

After establishing that the man wasn't a threat, the firefighter asked if the stranger needed help.

"The person said that they were hungry and cold, and so our personnel tried to help him with some water, and a plate and kinda set him on his way, "Bramell told KTXL.

Eventually, the homeless man left, but not without taking some butter. He also said that he had done this before, and firefighters believe he had been entering the station through an unlock door, something the department will address.

“Refocus the importance of maintaining that security for all of our facilities, just to make sure that our folks are safe,” Bramell tok KTXL.

No one was hurt in the encounter, and the homeless man wasn't cited or charged in the incident.
