A driver who was arrested and charged with intoxicated driving slammed into a Houston fire station, which left a hole in the building and caused a refrigerator to fall on a firefighter.

A Houston firefighter was injured after an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into a fire station Wednesday night.

The accident occurred at 10 p.m. at Fire Station No. 18, KHOU-TV reports. The driver, who was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, slammed into the station's kitchen and lounge area, which had been filled with firefighters moments before the incident.

The crash left a large hole in the firehouse's brick wall, and it knocked a refrigerator over, which fell on a firefighter. He was taken to the hospital, and District Chief Ruy Lozano told KHOU he suffered a head injury that might have caused a concussion.

Charges against the driver could be upgraded to intoxication assault on a public servant, the Harris County District Attorney's Office told the TV station. The driver also might be ordered to pay the city for the damages to the fire station.
