The New Orleans Fire Department is undertaking a $1.5 million project to repair and renovate 10 stations in the city.
The project, which was announced, will fix damage done by Hurricane Katrina, as well as upgrade stations, including new roofing, electrical replacement, new flooring and other renovations, WDSU-TV reports. Work starts Monday, and it's expected to be finished by January.
“We appreciate Mayor (LaToya) Cantrell for supporting our firefighters as she does all of our first responders in their work to protect our residents," Fire Superintendent Tim McConnell told WDSU. "In order to respond, we need quality facilities, and I know our team appreciates being able to do their work in a clean, safe workplace."
The repairs and renovations are part of a two-phase project. The second phase will begin in the fall.
