Heartbreak: Toddler Dies from Gunshot at TN Fire Station

The 2-year-old son of a Shackle Island firefighter died Thursday after getting separated from his father at the fire station and finding a firearm inside a vehicle.

A small Tennessee boy has died in a heartbreaking accidental shooting that happened at a fire station in Sumner County on Thursday.

WKRN News reports that the two-year-old son of a volunteer firefighter with the Shackle Island Fire Department died when he became separated from his father at the fire station, got into a vehicle and found a loaded gun. The weapon discharged and the boy was struck by the gunshot.

The child was transported to a Hendersonville hospital and then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but sadly he was pronounced dead after arrival.

The Sumner County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the boy's family plan a memorial.
