Farmville, NC, Firefighters Denied Funds for New Firehouse

The 97-year-old station isn't large enough for aerial apparatus, Farmville Fire Chief Tommy Brady said.

It appears Farmville firefighters will continue to squeeze apparatus into their firehouse.

Their request for $3 million to construct a new station was turned down by Pitt County commissioners.

“Truthfully, I think it already lived out its life over 40 years ago when it was remodeled in the 80’s. But, they had to get what they could get at the time,” Fire Chief Tommy Brady told WITN.

Brady and Mayor John Moore believe the county turned them down because other departments may seek funds as well.

Firefighters from Farmville respond to county areas.
