One Minute from Dispatch to on Scene at Baltimore Warehouse Fire

May 14, 2025
Residents rallied to keep the firehouse, across the street from the warehouse, when the city threatened to close it.

Baltimore firefighters were on the scene of a massive warehouse blaze in one minute.

That's because the firehouse is right across the street.

But, had previous city officials been successful, there wouldn't have been any firefighters that close, WBAL reported.

"I was one that fought when they had the meeting years ago, because they were trying to shut them down, and I fought for them. You should never have to shut a fire department down. I don't care what part of town it's on, we need them," Sharon Jones told a reporter.

Baltimore Local 734 President Matthew Coster said: "Budget cuts. That's how, back then, the mayor would like to balance a budget on the firefighters' backs, and close firehouses that way."

"The community definitely came out and rallied behind us and supported us at our rallies that we had at (Baltimore City Hall). Definitely gave their input on if they lost that firehouse, what it would do to the community and things like that," Coster said.

Coster said having a fire station across different parts of the city is the best thing because of the response times it affords.
