Firefighters with the Hauser Rural Fire Protection District are still stunned after a blaze destroyed their station and rigs early Tuesday.
The Hauser fire station and rigs were destroyed by a blaze early Tuesday.
“We had most of the fire in one bay. But it takes a little bit of time to get set up and it spreads fast when you have open air,” Hauser Fire Chief Jerry Wharton told KEZI.
After hearing the tones drop, Wharton said he was about to leave his house when he heard the location of the incident -- his fire station.
Among the nine vehicles destroyed were three engines, two tenders, and another rescue rig, two ATVs and and a calf truck, which he said is a specialized truck..
“We have 25 square-miles of sand, And so we're the ones that go out there and pick them up.
News spread fast and before the fire was out, he was getting calls from officers with nearby departments. Some have sent rigs while others are offering to lend a hand with various tasks.
The state fire marshals' office is investigating.
Wharton said firefighters will still be responding.
