New Adair County, IA, EMS Station Features Comforts of Home
Living in trailers without bathrooms is in the rear view mirrors of Adair County EMS crews.
After an EF4 twister wiped out their Greenfield station in May 2024, paramedics and EMTs stayed to continue responding.
“I have a resilient crew. They showed up every day, they were positive. I mean, it was a bad hand they were dealt, but they handled it very well,” EMS Director Chris Roberts told KRCG.
The ecstatic personnel who braved the elements and conditions were all smiles as they showed off their new home to the public Wednesday night.
“I’m so excited. It’s been a long time coming. It’s a super nice facility, it works out super well for us. So I’m grateful that I have a nice bed to sleep in and then don’t have to go outside to go to the bathroom,” laughed Paramedic Allie Downing.
The new station features four bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area and an expanded living room as well as more storage space.
Paramedic Taylor Brooks says it’s better for patients, too.
“Getting to have the couple of minutes to relax in between calls or a transfer. It really makes a huge impact on being able to be rested, to be able to have our best foot forward for, for patient care."
Roberts said community donations and support made the difference.
