New Marble Hills, TX, Fire Station Named for Chief Killed in '25 Flood

Fellow firefighters fulfilled Marble Hills Fire Chief Michael Phillips' dream of a new firehouse.

Marble Falls Fire Chief Michael Phillips responded to his final call last July.

Fellow firefighters did more than bring one of his dreams into reality. They've named their new fire station after him.

Phillips perished while trying to save people during a deadly flood that swept across Central Texas, CBS Austin reported.

The new station features a training area, something Phillips had a passion for as he taught firefighters across the state.

“He was like a father figure to a lot. He was a mentor. He was just the best friend to everybody. In the community, he was a pillar...His legacy will continue to touch people's lives,” Marble Falls Fire Chief Derrick Curtis said.

The community from near and far turned out Saturday for the dedication ceremony.

“He would probably been bashful, um, and tried to hide. But he's looking down and he's grinning ear to ear.”
