Itasca, IL - Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) operators of DuPage County have received a grant of $2,000 from The W. S. Darley Foundation of Itasca, IL. This grant was made in the name of William J. Darley, former Chairman of the Board and CEO, of the W. S. Darley & Company, who passed away in April of this year.
The funds will be used to purchase additional radios and support equipment so additional emergency field stations can be operational in any community disaster or public service event.
W. S. Darley & Company was founded in 1908 by William Stuart Darley in Chicago, IL. The fourth generation family–owned company started out selling fire and police equipment to municipalities across the US through its mail order catalog. Today the company designs, manufactures and distributes firefighting, military, homeland security, law enforcement and water purification equipment.
There are over 60 registered amateur operators in DuPage County who volunteer their time and personal radio equipment to be ready to assist with emergency communications. These amateur radio operators work with Homeland Security of DuPage County.
The DuPage ARES group meets on the second Monday of the month at the Homeland Security offices in Wheaton.
The group also assists with community events throughout the year such as Cantigny 5k, Darien- Woodridge 5K, Chicago Marathon, Cystic Fibrosis Cycle For Life and Swedish Days Bike Ride.
