Major Growth for Blackline Safety's Fire Hazmat Customer Base
Blackline Safety Corp. reported a notable increase in its fire and hazardous clientele, with their linked personal and area monitors currently serving over 500 fire departments worldwide.
This rapidly expanding vertical is based on actual operational deployments that demonstrate Blackline's dedication to the sector, as evidenced by the more than 40 percent increase in fire-hazmat clients in only the past year, from 350. Users all around the world depend on Blackline's cloud-connected safety platform to assist them in completing their high-risk tasks swiftly, effectively and securely.
“EXOs deploy as fast as you can take them out of the box and turn them on,” said Deputy Chief Tyler O’Neill of the Burnaby Fire Department in British Columbia, Canada.
Following an equipment breakdown, O'Neill's team recently deployed EXO 8s around the perimeter of a refinery, using plume modeling and real-time gas readings to confidently declare no evacuation.
“The plume modelling takes the guesswork out of how the plume is going to move in real time,” added O’Neill. “Now that we have that data, we’re able to make decisions quicker. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it.”
Firefighters also noted Blackline's technology's resilience under challenging circumstances.
“The EXO 8 is firefighter-proof — we’ve dropped it, knocked it over, had it in high heat, and it just keeps going,” said Assistant Chief Robert Thompson of the Chattanooga, TN, Fire Department. “The battery life is incredible. We can run it for entire events without worrying about charging. It gives us accurate readings we can trust, even in tough conditions.”
Italian hazmat responders at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics also chose Blackline this winter to use wearable gas detectors and EXO 8 Area Monitors with Gamma to safeguard Olympic venues. They were teamed with members of the Belluno Provincial Fire Brigade to perform pre-event sweeps and active crowd monitoring for radiation and chemical hazards.
The G8, Blackline's most recent wearable gas detector, started delivering in March. This cutting-edge technology streams real-time data straight to the cloud while integrating gas detection and real-time communication into a single device. With improved human-to-human communication capabilities at their fingertips, fire and hazmat teams can complete tasks with fewer instruments thanks to these lightweight, inherently safe technologies.
When combined, G8 and EXO 8 Gamma give fire and hazmat teams the whole picture—connected operations from command to responder.
