CAL FIRE Selects New Public Safety Information Platform
Intterra declared that AwareCA has been chosen by CAL FIRE as California's new statewide public safety information platform, which will provide quick, reliable, first-responder-verified updates to all residents and visitors. The software was created by Intterra as part of their Community software solution, and in early spring 2026, users will be able to download it via the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
With this decision, CAL FIRE takes a significant step toward updating the public's access to vital information, guaranteeing that Californians hear directly from the organizations tasked with their protection.
“Californians deserve timely, trusted information straight from the agencies that protect them,” said Chief Joe Tyler, Director & Fire Chief of CAL FIRE. “By partnering with Intterra on AwareCA, we are ensuring that the public receives accurate, real-time updates directly from CAL FIRE and our allied responders. This platform reflects our commitment to putting life-saving information into the hands of every resident and visitor in California and will complement our already robust website.”
The foundation of AwareCA is the idea that public safety information should never require payment from the general people. Since Californians already pay for emergency response, information that safeguards their lives and property should be easily available, quick, and reliable.
AwareCA will deliver:
- Near Real-time incident updates verified by first responders
- Wildfire activity and hazard information from authoritative data sources
- Official push notifications for nearby threats
- Statewide consistency so users no longer juggle multiple apps or social feeds
During quickly changing crises, the platform creates a contemporary, unified means for California's fire departments, law enforcement partners, and emergency management to communicate with a single, reliable voice.
A growing number of first responder agencies in California, including CAL FIRE, are using AwareCA as their main means of communication to provide public safety information in almost real-time. The widespread perception that reliable information must initially originate from the badge is reflected in this statewide change.
“Public safety agencies must own their voice. When seconds matter, the public can’t afford guesswork,” said Robert Wolf, Chief Executive Officer at Intterra. “AwareCA gives Californians fast, authoritative information from the badge itself, not from third-party aggregators or private apps. We believe CAL FIRE’s leadership in adopting this platform sets a new statewide standard for transparency, trust, and protection.”
AwareCA guarantees that everyone gets the same reliable, current information that first responders depend on, from homeowners in high-risk wildland regions and families driving along the coast to hikers in the Sierra and commuters in metropolitan areas.
This isn't just another private notification service or tech experiment. It was created especially to increase the confidence between first responders and the communities, and it is California's official channel, powered by the organizations the public already relies on.
