House OKs 911 Cellular Bill

The House yesterday OK'd a bill that, if passed, might have saved the lives of four teens who drowned off City Island.

The bill would make it easier to pinpoint the location of cell-phone users who call 911.

It would provide up to $500 million to upgrade emergency-response systems around the country.

In January, four teens in a dinghy were lost in Long Island Sound after one of them made a frantic 911 call, giving his location only as "the Sound."

The call was lost after only 12 seconds. It ended with the teen saying, "Oh, my God . . . We're gonna die."

The Senate is working to pass its version of the bill.
