Hendrickson launches its STEERTEK NXT high-capacity fabricated front steer axle and suspension systems on Pierce, HME and E-One’s chassis.

WOODRIDGE, IL – Hendrickson announces the official launch of STEERTEK NXT high-capacity fabricated front steer axle and suspension systems on Pierce’s Sabre & Enforcer chassis, HME’s1871 chassis, and E-One’s Typhoon & Cyclone chassis. This expansion further broadens the reach of Hendrickson’s technology for demanding fire and rescue applications. The STEERTEK NXT front axle and suspension system utilizes an innovative spring clamp group and a fabricated box-shaped axle. This combination allows for a reduction in weight, increase in performance and added durability when compared to traditional I-beam axles and suspensions.

The benefits of Hendrickson’s STEERTEK NXT front axle and suspension system include:

  • Maximized Ride Comfort and Handling: The STEERTEK NXT system incorporates a custom-tuned shock and an optimized parabolic spring.  A threaded pin bushing is utilized in the spring end allowing for simplification of spring alignment, longer service life, and improved roll stability.
  • Increased Maneuverability: The STEERTEK NXT system offers multiple Ackermann configurations along with a 45° cramp angle to achieve a tighter turning radius and greater maneuverability.
  • Reduced Maintenance: One-piece knuckle design helps reduce maintenance and downtime. Premium pin bushings and seals provide enhanced protection.
  • Added Durability: The system is available in capacities from 16,000 to 24,000 lbs., can be combined with either drum brakes or disc brakes, and consists of a fabricated axle with a box-shaped cross section construction with 100 ksi steel plate and continuous beam architecture to minimize stress.

“The addition of our STEERTEK NXT axle and suspension system availability at Pierce, HME and E-One further shows our commitment to improving the ride, handling, and maneuverability of fire apparatus,” said Bob Albano, Business Development Manager at Hendrickson. “We’re committed to delivering highly engineered suspension solutions to allow our first responders to get to and from the scene with a focus on performance and comfort.”
