The driver of a Stony Brook Fire Department fire chief's vehicle was airlifted after being involved in an accident in Hauppauge early Thursday.
Suffolk County police officials told local newspaper Newsday that the fire vehicle collided with a car at Routes 111 and 347 around 12:30 a.m.
The impact of the crash flipped the chief's vehicle on it's side, according to 7Online.com.
Firefighters worked for 30 minutes to extricate the fire chief and two occupants of the car.
The female passenger in the car was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The male driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unclear if the fire vehicle was responding to an emergency.
