NY Firefighter Badly Injured in Crash
A volunteer firefighter from a western New York community nestled along the southern shore of Lake Ontario suffered serious injuries in a crash while he was responding to a call.
WHAM reports that firefighter Jared Thompson with the Fancher Hulberton Murray Fire Company was traveling eastbound on Route 21 in Murray at around 5:40 p.m. Monday with his emergency lights activated when he rear-ended a truck.
Witnesses told state troopers that Murray had passed several other vehicles and appeared to not see the truck, which was turning off the road and toward a grain silo at the time of the crash.
The 27-year-old Thompson was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries after he was extricated from his pickup. He is currently listed in guarded condition.
