May 14--A four-vehicle crash involving a Middletown Fire Department truck Tuesday morning sent a woman to Hartford Hospital.
According to police on the scene, the crash also involved a Subaru Crosstrek, box truck and taxi. The vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection of High Street and Washington Street near the campus of Wesleyan University.
The fire truck, its siren and flashing lights on, struck the Subaru as the Crosstrek was going through the intersection. Police said it is unclear why the Subaru was in the middle of the intersection as the fire truck approached.
The crash pushed the Subaru into the northern side of High Street. Police said they did not know the extent of the driver's injuries.
The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. Washington Street was closed between High Street and Pearl Street while the accident was cleared and reopened approximately 9:15 a.m.
Police said the crash is under investigation.
