NY EMS Rescue Apparatus Crashes on Way to Fire
Buffalo firefighters rescued an East Side man from his burning home late Saturday night and transported him to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Fire officials said the victim, identified only as a man in his late 60s, was found at 805 E. Delavan Ave. after a second alarm was sounded. They said the fire started on the first floor and the victim was rescued on an upper floor.
No cause has been determined, but fire officials estimated damage at $100,000, with $35,000 in exposure damage to the structure next door at 807 E. Delavan Ave. The Red Cross is assisting three people.
Fire officials also reported that an EMS vehicle collided with another vehicle at Bailey Avenue and William Street while responding to the fire. They added the collision occurred while the EMS vehicle was responding with lights and siren.
One member of the EMS crew and a woman in the other vehicle suffered "various injuries," fire officials said. The crew member was treated and released.
A Fire Department spokesman said both vehicles sustained extensive damage, and the incident remains under investigation.
