The 4,000th Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) Pump has been delivered, according to Pierce Manufacturing. The Clark County, NV, Fire Department (CCFD) received the milestone order and delivery, which was acquired through Pierce distributor Hughes Fire Equipment.

By doing away with the requirement for a pumphouse, Pierce's PUC pump, which was originally released in 2007, revolutionized the design of conventional fire apparatus. The PUC water pump design, which is available on pumpers, rescue pumpers, tankers, and aerials, simplifies vehicle architecture to optimize equipment space and ease of use while preserving outstanding pump, foam, and water delivery performance.

“When we introduced the PUC pump, our goal was simple: listen to firefighters and design an apparatus that makes their jobs safer and more efficient,” said John Schultz, vice president and general manager – pumper products, Pierce Manufacturing.

The CCFD covers almost 8,000-sq. miles in unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, making it one of the biggest and most varied response regions in the country. In addition to rural desert terrain and recreational sites like Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, CCFD's authority include the renowned Las Vegas Strip, McCarran International Airport, major resorts, and large-scale entertainment facilities.

The department reacts to a variety of situations, from high-rise fires and hazardous material events to wildland and technical rescue missions, with over 1,400 personnel working from dozens of strategically placed stations. The Pierce PUC Pumper is a perfect fit for CCFD's requirement for robust, adaptable equipment that can function dependably in harsh environments.

The full delivery includes three identical Pierce Velocity® PUC Pumpers featuring:

  • Velocity custom chassis
  • PACCAR MX-13 510-hp engine with 1,850-lb.-ft. torque
  • PUC 1500-gpm pump
  • 750-gallon water tank
  • TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension
  • PUC Pumper 189-inch body design
  • Frontal impact protection
  • Extreme Duty Air Conditioning Package
  • Command Zone Advanced Electronics System
  • HAAS Collision Mitigation System
  • ClearSky Intelligence Connected Solutions System

Every piece of equipment is designed to provide exceptional maneuverability and streamlined pump operations, which are essential for the diverse urban and rural settings that Clark County firefighters deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, the enclosed pump operator's panel structure reduces maintenance needs and helps regulate exposure to harsh environmental conditions, improving operational efficiency.

Pierce's 4,000th PUC Pump delivery shows how fire departments still have faith in the PUC's ability to streamline operations, increase safety, and boost performance.
