Federal agents have arrested a Canton man accused of shooting at another man, causing bullets to hit a passing ambulance, a moving car and a parked car last week.
Willie E. Evans Jr., 36, of Columbus Avenue NW, was arrested without incident at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 5100 block of Stires Drive NW in Malvern in Carroll County, said Anne Murphy, supervisor with the U.S. Marshals Service.
Agents with the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force had warrants for Evans' arrest.
He faces charges of discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises, felony obstructing justice, having weapons under disability and felonious assault.
Firefighters called police at 3:25 p.m. Thursday to Fire Station 8 on Dueber Avenue SW to report their ambulance had been struck by gunfire on Tuscarawas Street W near Columbus Avenue NW. Battalion Chief Steven Henderson said two firefighter-paramedics were on board and they had no patients in the ambulance when the vehicle was hit. They were not injured.
Bullets also struck another car moving through the area and a parked, unoccupied vehicle in the 100 block of Columbus.
At 4:19 p.m., police dispatchers received a call reporting trouble at a home in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue NW. Two men were fighting over domestic issues. One of them had fired several shots at the other man, who was seen running away.
No injuries were reported.
Evans remained behind bars later Tuesday, held in lieu of $250,000 bond, pending a Canton Municipal Court hearing.
