TX Firefighters Injured after Tanker Rolls Over

“The tank on the truck is what saved them. … They are lucky to be alive," said Plum Grove's fire chief about the accident that injured three firefighters.

Three Texas firefighters were injured when their apparatus crashed on their to a call Sunday.

Plum Grove crews were responding to a large grass fire in the Santa Fe neighborhood at about 4 p.m., according to an online update by the department. Firefighters responding in a tanker began to feel the apparatus shake before losing control.

The tanker rolled over and trapped the firefighter, who were able to radio for help. Units on the scene were able to extricate the firefighters and take them to a local hospital.

“The tank on the truck is what saved them," Fire Chief Chris Loftin told Bluebonnet News. "Had the truck slid into the ditch, it would have sheered the cab off. They are lucky to be alive."

The firefighters were released and are expected to make full recoveries, the department stated.

“This is huge setback for us," Loftin told Bluebonnet News. "This is our only tanker. Our engine is out being repaired, so we have been using the tanker to respond to fires."
