Driver Hits MI Emergency Vehicles at Crash, Then Flees
A driver who failed to yield at an accident scene crashed into Michigan emergency vehicles before fleeing late Thursday.
The initial incident happened about 10 p.m. along West Main Street in Kalamazoo Township, according to a press release by the Kalamazoo Township Police Department. A 54-year-old Kalamazoo in a wheelchair was struck on the shoulder by a pickup truck and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
As first responders were still at the scene, a four-door sedan didn't yield and crashed into emergency vehicles. A dashcam camera captured footage of the vehicle barreling through the accident scene and speeding away.
Michigan State Police pursued the vehicle but lost it near an apartment complex. The left-front fender of the sedan, which was described as white or silver, was damaged in the incident.
Police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the first accident, the department said. He was charged with suspicion of operating while intoxicated and causing serious injury.
