A West Virginia firefighter was injured in an apparatus accident Friday that also damaged the vehicle.

The crash happened while two Charleston firefighters were doing maintenance work on an apparatus at Station No. 2, WSAZ-TV reports. While the work was being done, the brakes on the fire engine failed, and the vehicle began to roll away.

One of the firefighters tried to stop the runaway apparatus, which rolled over the first responder's foot, according to WOWK-TV. The rig eventually struck the retaining wall of a nearby underpass.

The injured firefighter was taken to the hospital in stable condition, WSAZ added. The extent of the damage done to the apparatus wasn't clear.
