A man who spent four years volunteering with the Carneys Point Fire Department is among three who were charged after equipment was reporting missing from the fire station.
John Boos, 32, has been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property and theft of moveable property.
"It's a big shock to anyone, but especially from your own fire department," Carneys Point Fire Chief Ted Stranahan told the South Jersey Times.
In late February the department reported that $8,500 in equipment was stolen, including two Sawzalls and five generators.
Boos was charged with the theft on March 20 and removed from active duty with the company. A few days later he was arrested and for fencing stolen property.
John Kerper, 40, and Jason McManus, 31, were arrested last week and also faces charges in the theft.
Some of the missing gear was tracked down at a pawn shop.
