Omaha Battalion Chief Joseph Salcedo was placed on paid leave pending a probe.
Aug. 2, 2016

An Omaha fire officer has been placed on leave after posting an inappropriate message on Facebook.

Battalion Chief Joseph Salcedo is being paid while the department and the city investigate the incident, according to a statement from fire officials.

The move was taken after Interim Chief Dan Olsen became aware of the message.

Omaha IAFF Local 385 President Steve LeClair said of the incident: "...Local 385 unequivocally condemns the actions of Battalion Chief Joe Salcedo. Mr. Salcedo, who was serving in the role of acting chief while Interim Chief Dan Olsen was on vacation, is not a member of the Omaha Professional Fire Fighters Association. Our organization disavows the offensive material he posted on social media and immediately reported the material to the City of Omaha and Interim Fire Chief Olsen."
