A Kentucky firefighter faces first-degree sexual abuse charges after he was accused of unwanted sexual contact with a female colleague at the fire station.

Elijah Mays was arrested by Ludlow police Monday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Mays had been a firefighter with the Ludlow Fire Department since October 2019, but he has since been fired, Chief Mike Steward told the news outlet.

According to police, Mays allegedly undressed and inappropriately touched a female firefighter at the department's fire station, a little more than four hours before the arrest. Mays also had been working as a full-time provisional firefighter/EMT for the Erlanger Fire Department since February and was sworn in as a firefighter in March. He is currently suspended without pay, the Enquirer added.

Previously, Mays had worked at the Park Hills Fire Department and served as a Marine from 2007 to 2011. He is under in-home incarceration, and is his next court date is May 12.
