The Hootie and the Blowfish founder met with the family and colleagues of fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd during a virtual visit that included two unexpected performances.

Country music star and Hootie and the Blowfish founder Darius Rucker helped honor a fallen New York firefighter.

Rucker, via a Zoom call this week, visited Columbian Engine Co. No. 1 this week to meet with members, as well as fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd's family. Lloyd died battling a massive blaze at an assisted living facility March 23.

For about a half hour, Rucker, who was joined by Audacy country music radio host Kelly Ford, listened to anecdotes about Lloyd. The singer, who was Lloyd's favorite, also connected with the fallen firefighter's two young sons, including one named after Rucker.

The virtual visit included two special, unexpected performances. Logan, Lloyd's oldest son, sang Rucker's 2013 hit "Wagon Wheel" throughout the Zoom call, and Lloyd's firefighters also performed the song at the end of the visit.
