AL Firefighters Escort Late Colleague's Son to School

The son of firefighter Kyle Dodd, who died unexpectedly in July, was met at his school by members of his dad's firefighting families from Oneonta Fire and Rescue Service and Center Point Fire District.

The son of an Alabama firefighter who died unexpectedly last month was escorted by a group of his father's fellow firefighters Tuesday.

Firefighters from Oneonta Fire and Rescue Service and Center Point Fire District met Easton Dodd, the son of late firefighter Kyle Dodd, at the boy's school, according to the Oneonta department. Dodd, 31, died unexpectedly July 28.

"The fire service is deep not only in tradition, but probably even more so in family," the Oneonta department stated in a social media post that featured a photo of Easton with his dad's colleagues at Oneonta School. "That family doesn’t end when someone leaves or is no longer with the fire department."

Center Point firefighters also shared the photo on the district's Facebook page. They also added included offered their own thoughts about the special escort duty: "It was an honor."

Dodd had been an Oneonta firefighter for 12 years, and he served with the Center Point Fire District for seven years.
