Holiday Mirth: Fire Departments Get Creative with PSAs

Fire departments are taking advantage of social media to reach the public in creative ways this holiday season.

Fire departments across the country are always looking for new and creative ways to reach the public with fire safety messages and the holiday season is no different.

To convey their messaging, departments have opted to use photo and video platforms with humor and holiday props to educate the public on fire safety.

Some of the popular themes departments are using included variations of Elf on the Shelf, classic scenes from popular holiday movies and myriad creative ideas.

Here are some of our favorites:

Graham Fire & Rescue in Washington shared their take on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.


Alabama's Hoover Fire Department created a variety of cards highlighting scenes from classis Christmas movies.

Maplewood MO Fire Department shared a number of posts of the antics of Holly and Eddie.

Savage Fire Department – Minnesota produced their own  version of Home Alone.

Statesboro Fire Department in Georgia posted many of Fuego the Elf's adventures.

Unified Fire Authority in Utah assist Santa after he locked himself out of a car he was driving after parking his sleigh.

Hamilton Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 20 in Ohio Came in Like a Wrecking Ball highlighting their training.

Omaha Fire Department in Nebraska slides in with multiple posts featuring Boots the Elf educating the public on holiday safety.

United Fire Authority in Utah also featured firefighters on their holiday album cover of fire and EMS themed songs.

Portugal Cove - St. Philip's Volunteer Fire Department in Newfoundland and Labrador shared their version of the 12 Days of Christmas with a fire safety message.

Fishers Fire Department in Indiana featured holiday safety messages with their version of Firefighter on a Shelf.
